On March 24th, community members and leaders gathered at the Poughkeepsie High School to take hands and make a stand to protect our children from gun violence and make schools safe again.
Students, leaders and members of the community spoke with emotion, and ended with poignant calls for action. The event culminated in an emotional joining of hands around the Poughkeepsie High School building. People from all walks of life came together in a symbolic embrace of our children and in memory of the victims of gun violence.
The demonstration was intended to bring attention to protecting our children from gun violence, but it came to achieve so many things. SOS brought our community members together, brought love and support to our schools, and inspired upcoming SOS Surround Our Schools events for the coming months.
It felt beautiful.
